Son of Soil (SOS) Farmer’s Producer Company Ltd. is registered under Companies Act 2013, (18 of 2013) is emerging as the most effective means of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) to cater to the needs of farmers at the grass root level. The company is limited by shares. The registered office address is Village- Shivnar, Block-Mokama, District-Patna, Bihar. SOS is a multi-stakeholder owned platform to support production and market linkages of agriculture commodities for small and marginal landholding Farmers. The model of a small landholding farmer being self-sufficient is very difficult to achieve. Climate change and overuse of fertilisers and pesticides over the past few decades have made this worse.
Considering the above, SOS was registered as a Farmer Producer Company (FPC), in order to solve the challenges of scalability, sustainability, and benefit to the end farmers and consumers.
SOS offer a wide range of benefits compared to other formats of aggregation of the farmers. FPC members are able to leverage collective strength and bargaining power to access financial and non-financial inputs and services and appropriate technologies leading to reduction in transaction costs. Members can also collectively tap high value markets and enter into partnerships with private entities on equitable terms. Therefore, SOS is 100% owned by farmers alone who have equal voting rights irrespective of their holding size.
SOS believe that, it’s achievable to ensure a sustainable income to the small and marginal farmers of the state which is sufficient for a life of respectability for them and their family members. And finally intended to do this without putting extra burden on end consumers. SOS is putting efforts to remove needless middlemen, improved logistics, reduction in post-harvest losses, and providing trust and transparency to consumers.
All the above initiative shall lead to sustainability to the farmers and provide quality and assurance to the end consumers.
SOS is on the way for creating Crop, Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry and other livelihood specific integrated value chain empowered by technology and efficient management.
